Instances like these should not shock us who are old enough to have felt that there is two clear divide......The rulers and the ruled...
Some people from general public may feel that they have become independent and the rulers dont exist , but they have to rethink and see the present day scene.
What ever Gladson has reported here is at the lowest level of ruling class...but talk to the higher officers ...who are getting more than Rs 1 lac per month with siren, red light big cars , AC ban glows.... they will justify it, if proofs or some conscious citizen dont pursue the matter.
The common language I find in the upper class ( administration) is that " these people are like this only and one has to be very firm with them"
A common person is still referred as these people !! I dont feel that Britishers have completely left our nation....They put behind 'Black Angrej s' who now are ruling the country.
Look into the eyes of any police man, administrative person, people representative...and you will feel the difference....try to make them realise that we all are equal ...and then you may know the deference..

What Gladson is reporting is shocking and indicates the dire need for police reforms. Any unchecked power is bound to be abused. Often draconian laws coupled with unchecked power lead to gross violation of human rights as being reported. No civil society will support Naxalism but for God sake don't kill and torture innocent people in the name of national security. These are our own brethren countrymen. This ways we will only create more unrest in the country and more naxals will be born. The need is to increase involvement of common people in the Government's developmental and social empowerment schemes to win the trust of people in governance. If people are terrorised, you will only alienate them from the system of governance being practiced.

Wake up before it is too late. People's movement can't be curbed by bullets. And these movements are not separatist in nature but for seeking their basic rights - right to life! Are we not bound by our Constitution to provide these rights to all citizens of India?

Your article highlights the dangerous and deplorable sate of mind of the Indian police force, out to turn us into a bannana republic. I hope things change for the better and sane voices like yours are heard.

yes, we all know the rampant corruption in each & every strata of our life, we have become so subdued that it doesn't arouse us unless & until it effects us. we read such stories everyday in newspaper, but hardly we react, this becomes just another news & followup's for us.

we ourself try to corrupt the authorities to get something in our favors, although unwilling.

we all are aware of such atrocities around us but hardly react.

Well written & very informative.

Da... I was crestfallen after reading the story. Indeed you have highlighted the grim reality of our locality. The same things happen in our Sambalpur, Balangir area as well.
